Ok. ESP is buying a camcorder. Despite all appearances to the contrary, I know nothing about technology. Are they even called camcorders anymore? We want to spend $150-$200. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I bet a bunch of you know by now that I teach for Splash - which is a one weekend program where you can teach a class on anything you want to high school and middle
school students in the Boston area. It's a very low time commitment opportunity and is a lot of fun. If you're interested give me an email!

Then inflict your interests on high school students by teaching Splash

The ESP website is working and is in usability tests. This is good. I can sleep more than five hours a night. In fact, last night I slept 8. I believe J slept 12 after falling asleep typing in a chair. I feel much better, but I'm physically exhausted. My upper body hurts like I've run a marathon with it. Luckily, no RSI for me this time. I was going to stop the moment my wrists started hurting but that moment never came. I've also figured out a way that I can get Brandeis independent study credit for the last two weeks. If I've ever learned anything about interface design at a professional level - this is it. Yesterday I was in an actual human-subject, cameras and everything usability lab where people were testing our code. It's amazing and very enlightening to watch people use the interface you designed. You get very... umm.. involved. Or that just may have been us.

So tomorrow is Firehose, which is a bunch of classes by MIT students which you can attend (well, if you're in Boston). Follow the link to find the schedule. There's a lot of cool classes going on - you should be there.

You should all teach for Firehose!

Ever wished that you could get a taste of another major? Learn a little about material science, linguistics, political science, or mechanical engenering? Attend some of the awesome classes offered during Splash?

Firehose is a plethora of classes on diverse topics both academic and not so academic. These classes are taught by MIT students for MIT students. Firehose is a day-long event for you to teach a little (or a lot!) of something to your fellow MIT students. Have you ever felt that you could teach all of 6.001 in two hours? Have you ever wanted to learn protein folding in an hour? This is what Firehose is for. It's for sharing your love of general relativity with other MIT students, or your love of square dancing.

I've created two need feeds that various people on my friends list may be interested in.

The first is [ profile] esp_blog which is the blog for ESP.

The second is [ profile] english_magic for Friends of English Magic, which is a news site for fans of the book Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. This feed hasn't updated yet, but you can still subscribe.

Both feeds are pretty low traffic.

On a totally unrelated note, I actually like Firefly.

I'm trying to find famous movie soundtrack songs for my Splash Sound Design class. I decided to include one of those Disney animanted movie songs. I started to figure out what their generation's Disney movies where (what was their "Little Mermaid?"). I was struck by two things:

1) I'm old.
2) It's sad there aren't any of those sorts of Disney movies anymore.
