The D Word.
Nov. 14th, 2005 02:58 pmI just had an awesome meeting with my adviser. Now I remember why I came to this school. We discussed all the unsolved problems and questions that I was interested in. We talked about why the time has come to move on from Chomsky, though there are lessons from his work which are still useful for the field. We talked about compositionality, typing, primitives, construction, formality and all sorts of other wonderful things. And then out of that conversation came an idea.
Now I have to start doing a literature search. It's a modeling idea - I guess I can't really get away from the fact that I am a modeler. It keeps coming back to haunt me. I'm telling myself not to get too excited. There's a long, hard road to the word that begins with a D.
On a related note, I have to learn a lot of information theory really fast. Any recommendations?
